Avar |
|
The Avar (Magyar Sport) is the basic model. Unstrung,
the handle and the bellies form a straight line. The wooden ears of lihas or syhas on static recurves have a 30 degree angle
forwards. Unstrung the overall length is 56 inches tip to tip and the ears stick forward 6 inches. Strung with the 50 inch string
the Avar are 52 inches tall. They do not start to stack until 30 inches and can safely be drawn to 33 inches. Available in
draw weights from 25 to 70#. The Avar (until 2002 called the Magyar Sport) was the model that in 1992 moved Kassai from a home
craftsman to a production company. It still sells more than any other of his models. The Vazul and Hunter are very close
derivations of the Avar and are offered at the same price.

Vazul |
|
Translates as Bear is the largest variation on the Avar. It is intended for the huntsman or target
shooter who desires a longer bow and the option for more power. To offer this higher poundage the aerodynamic shape
of the Avar and Hunter's syhas were replaced with a comparatively massive
and blunt shape. The bow weighs 1 lb. 15 oz. The string is 55 and 1/8 inches. It
is 61 inches long unstrung and 58 inches strung. It is available in draw weights
from 25# to 90#.

Mongol
|
|
The contribution of the Mongols to ancient archery was the "string
bridge". This a groove or rest much like the string bridge of a guitar. It holds the string in place when the bow
is at rest thus allowing the syhas to bend forward of the string. The advantage of this is an extra "snap or flick"
of acceleration when the string hits the bridges and the syhas keep going. The handle and belly are much the same as the
Magyar sport. The difference is in the ears: when unstrung, they lay forward 6.5" (60 degrees). Strung, they measure
56" with their 54" string. This creates a bow with a slightly different feel from the Magyar, but with still
the same easy draw and little or no rebound from the shot. Their draw weight is measured at 30". They do not start
to stack until past 31", and an inch or two of overdraw is well within the bow's normal limits. Archers over 6'
tall seem to prefer this bow's feel.
